Roger Bagnall is Leon Levy Director Emeritus at the Institute for the Study of the Ancient World (ISAW), Emeritus Professor of Ancient History at New York University and Emeritus Professor of History and Emeritus Jay Professor of Greek and Latin at Columbia University, Director of the NYU/Columbia excavations at Amheida, Egypt. Bagnall is a world-renowned papyrologist, classicist, and historian, whose wide-ranging scholarship has made major contributions to our knowledge and appreciation of antiquity, and especially of Egypt in the Graeco-Roman and late antique periods.
