The St. Louis Black Repertory Company continues its 47th Anniversary Season with August Wilson’s KING HEDLEY, directed by Founder and Producing Director Ron Himes. The production opens Friday, June 21 (with previews June 19-20) through Sunday July 14, 2024 at The Edison Theatre on the campus of Washington University in St. Louis. It is presented with support from The Whitaker Foundation.
The ninth installment in Wilson’s renowned American Century Cycle of ten plays about the Black Experience, KING HEDLEY II draws on characters established in his earlier work, SEVEN GUITARS, portraying how shadows of the past darken the present. A run on Broadway in 2001 garnered multiple Tony and Drama Desk award nominations, with Viola Davis winning both the Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Play and Drama Desk Award Outstanding Featured Actress in a Play.
Tickets are available at theblackrep.org or through the Box Office at 314-534-3807. Reduced pricing is available for seniors, educators, museum staff, students, and groups of 12 or more. Recommended for mature audiences ages 14 and up.
