Abstract: 
Industrial waste CO2 from process streams or biogas provides a renewable feedstock for production of valuable carbon products and fuels. In that regard, integrated carbon capture-utilization provides a viable approach to curb anthropogenic CO2 emissions and, at the same time, produce valuable chemicals and fuels from a waste carbon feedstock. We have recently reported proof-of-concept demonstration of in-situ capture and utilization of CO2 in ethylene production through oxidative dehydrogenation of ethane over various dual-function materials (DFMs) including double salts or CaO to impart adsorption functionality and Cr-incorporated SiO2 and H-ZSM-5, to impart catalyst functionality. In this talk, development, characterization, and performance evaluation of these DFMs under semi-isothermal capture-utilization conditions will be discussed. Additionally, kinetic analysis of the obtained data and the effects of process conditions and bed configuration on capture-conversion performance of the studied DFMs will be presented. Our results provide a fresh insight on the application of novel DFMs for intensified capture-utilization processes.  

Biography: Dr. Rezaei is an Associate Professor of Chemical and Biochemical Engineering at Missouri S&T. She obtained her PhD degrees in Chemical Engineering from Monash University in Australia and LTU in Sweden in 2011. She worked as a postdoctoral fellow at Georgia Tech before she joined Missouri S&T in 2014. Her research focus broadly lies at the interface of chemical, materials science and environmental engineering, and the overall goal of her research group is development of advanced materials and processes for clean energy and environment. She is the author of over 100 peer-reviewed journal articles and has received several awards including 2021 ACS Women Chemists Committee (WCC) Rising Star Award; 2020 UM System president’s Award for Career Excellence-Early Career; 2018 Energy & Fuels Award for Excellence in Publication; and 2018 Missouri S&T Faculty Research Award. She is the Associate Editor of ACS Energy & Fuels journal and editorial member of Journal of CO2 Utilization and Frontiers in Energy Research.
