On Tuesday, Oct. 17 from 5:30 p.m. - 7 p.m., the Gephardt Institute is thrilled to welcome Shira Berkowitz for a conversation on her civic journey.

For this Civic Journey Spotlight, we are thrilled to welcome Shira Berkowitz to share their story. Shira serves as PROMO's Senior Director of Public Policy and Advocacy leading the statewide strategy for the LGBTQ+ public policy, organizing and advocacy. They bring a range of experience having worked on statewide policy and advocacy campaigns, as a social impact artist, and as a social entrepreneur. They hold a Master of Fine Arts from Washington University of St. Louis, and are dedicated to building spaces for people to grow in community while addressing civic and social challenges in our built environment.

They are a founding board member of MaTovu, a Jewish neighborhood center in the City, serve on the Board of Directors for the Jewish Federation of St. Louis, and are a founding member of MARSH – a queer bio-culture laboratory and mutual aid hub. They are also a founder of the first local summer camp for trans, gender expansive and LGBTQ+ youth.
