Bayes’ theorem might be the single most important concept in probability theory, underpinning the scientific method as well as day-to-day decision making. In this sample lecture, we will examine how Bayes helps us update our mental models to take new evidence into account. In particular, we will focus on the “odds form” of Bayes’ theorem, which is especially useful for understanding the world rationally. Finally, we will explore the concept of conditional probability and use this as a tool to prove Bayes’ theorem.
